Chapter 10

First Night at Home

A meeting of a family,
Yes, a really and truly home;
Where each one loves the other -
They just seem to be 'Three in One.'

The next day they arrive at his home. His mother shows her love for him in a mother's way. His father shakes his hand and comments on how good he looks. Then they settle down. The father and son in one room, the mother and the woman she chose to take care of her boy in the other room.

He asks his father how business is and hears the same story of loss of money and the expenses of the upkeep of the house and other things. He conveys to his son that he still thinks he should have stayed home to help him in his business to save expenses. The boy smiles at this for he knows his father is one of the cogs of the wheels of industry; and money is his aim in life. He expresses himself by saying, "Yes, it is hard to have to pay someone else when you have a son of your own; but your son did not seem to fit into the wheel smoothly. There always seemed to be an undue friction. It may not have been felt by the wheel but the cog felt it and could not be satisfied."

At these words, the father looked up at his son and said, "You speak strangely; yet it sounds like common sense."

"Well, father, I always speak common sense or I hold my peace. That is the motto of my life. I never talk to be heard. I do not like useless noises. Do you?"

"Well, son, that is well spoken; and has a great lesson in it, but I am of a different world than you. You seem to dwell in a world all your own. I am in the world of cold matter-of-fact material. Maybe some day you will be understood; but up to now you are a mystery and always have been - to me."

"No, not a mystery - just misunderstood; but I hope, some day you will understand me and also the people of the world. I hope, some day, to repay you for bringing me into the world. I know, so far, I have been an added expense to you; but my time will come."

Just then, the mother entered the room and took her boy by the arm and said, "Dinner is served;" and the light in her eyes was beautiful. You could see the fountain of a mother's love over-flowing for she had been listening to the story of her boy's life, and what a beautiful life it must be.

As they passed around the table, he put an envelope at his father's place and one at his mother's place.

At this action, his friend saw and understood the principle. He was making them both alike. How wonderful! On one was written, "To My Father, with all the respects of a Son." On his mother's was, "To My Mother, she who saw and understood, From a Son of Love."

After they had finished their meal, each opened their envelope and on a piece of paper was written, "A part of the first fruits of my labor."

When they looked at the check and saw the amount, the mother's eyes filled with tears and the father looked at his son and said, "Will you ever forgive me for the thoughts I had of you, Son?"

He replied, "I have nothing to forgive. I was just misunderstood. I want to make you both happy and make me worthy of such parents. To you, I give all the credit for what I am today - not forgetting my right hand supporter", as he took the hand of the woman who had brought him before the public. As he took her hand she, too, shed a few tears of gladness; and I think I can hear her say "How much I love you, you will never know."

As he noticed the tears in all their eyes, he smiled upon them and said, "Why tears; when we should have smiles of joy?"

They dried their eyes and left the table. The father and son going into the room alone once more while the women cleared the table. What a homecoming! What a Mother! What a father! But, what a Son!

When they were settled down, the father asked him where he had gotten the money. He told him of the sale of his first book; and as he talked of his book, his father stopped him and said, "Then you, my Son, are this unknown author the country is on fire about? The book, just published, is really yours? All you can hear is 'That Book' and the people trying to guess the name of the author. You, who I thought I would have to keep as long as I live; and worried who would keep you after I was gone. Can this be possible?"

"Yes, Dad, it is possible; and before you began to rave I was going to suggest a few things to you. I will have a monthly income that will run into the thousands. My second book will be off the press in a week or two and they are begging for more. So since my income is assured for years to come, I would like you to give up your struggle of life and take mother on a tour around the world. You have not seen much, and it would be a wonderful thing for you to withdraw yourself from the wheel of industry; and see how beautiful this world is when you get out of the grind of the masses. You can live for quite a while yet, if you take life easy - and you can if you 'want to'. Do you 'want to'? Make up your mind and as you want so shall it be."

"To think, you are the author of this wonderful book and the book to be named 'Creation in Truth'. My Son, how do you see these things?"

"Well, my eyes have been opened and I see beyond the masses. I am looking for Wisdom - not prosperity. My ears have been given a keener reception; so I can hear the Small Silent Voice that brings my Soul-mind into the highest thoughts possible. My tongue has been loosened, and when I speak, I speak as the Silent Voice speaks to me. As I sit alone, I hear the most beautiful things, and as I look, I see the true beauty of the Earth. As I listen, the Voice of Creation speaks to me. The mountain always talked to me - that is why I loved them so and because they loved me and liked to talk to me is why they kept calling me. I was lonesome for them and they were lonesome for me. Now I am going to travel, and as I travel, I will be constantly reading the Book of Creation. As I read it, I will be able to understand it; then I will tell the people what the Book of Creation tells me. You know, Dad, Creation cannot lie. I hope to hear, as I travel, the voice of the seas, the rivers, the hills, the sands on the seashore, the climate of different countries and the different races of people; from where they get their color. The different deposits of the Earth will tell me from where they came. The storehouse for man will open its doors and say, 'Yes, look into my larder and watch and you will see how time and evolution put me here.

Yes, and after I was here, it took a long time before man came forth to claim me; but I am satisfied for the waiting for I see man's advanced thought. My victuals, I give to him freely for I have enough and to spare.' I will sail upon the different seas, and, I know, each one will have a beautiful story to tell of both the joys and the sorrows they bring to man. I will listen to them and when I give it to the world - what a picture it will be! Yes, Dad, Creation is vast; Wisdom is unlimited; there is a power beyond all human understanding; a general love for humanity and when I get big enough to find these three great principles and know how to use them - how happy I will be! All I can say when I talk thus I could go on forever, there is no end to it. The Book of Creation is full and every page is of the most interesting reading; and the more you read the smaller you get in your own estimation, for you see so far beyond you; and the beyond is so full of treasures you would like to have that you feel as though you would never get there.

The grade is so steep and your progress so slow; yet as soon as you try to get a step ahead of yourself there seems to be a hand there and it lays upon you and the voice says 'take your time only one step at a time and be sure your foot is firmly set or you may slip back; then you will have to climb longer and the second time it will be harder for you have slipped and when you slipped your feet made it more slippery. So I would say go careful, go easy and take care; but be sure and make your own path - do not try to step in the footsteps of others. They may lead you from your path and it might just look as though it were the same path as you were on but be not led by such marks. Nor should you turn to right or left as your goal is straight ahead and only by going straight can you reach the goal put before you. You will find, the further you ascend the mountain, the further you will see; and the more you see the more you will understand; the more you understand the more eager you will be to proceed further for the heights of the life of a Soul-mind is even unto Creation itself - the goal is worth the struggle - the struggle only makes the victory greater; and the greater the victory the more Wisdom you receive. Do not let the glaring lights of Life lead you from your path' ".

At this time, the mother maternal and the mother Soul-mind enters the room and takes their seats. The father is looking seriously at his son; as he has not heard him talk this way before. He says to the mother, "Mother, we have a priceless gift in this son of ours. How glad I am that you saw and understood at the beginning of his life. What a mistake I might have made! How wrong my thoughts have been! I am ashamed of myself for the things I have thought and said to you."

The son speaks again, "Father, let the past be the past, let us start all over again. Keep the worthwhile memories of the past; but let us cast the unpleasant thoughts from us. Let us live today that we might know more tomorrow. Let us not imitate the lives of those in the past; but rather let us try to be what the men will be tomorrow. Let us keep the wheels of evolution going, there are enough people today who retard the progress of the evolution of the Soul-mind of the people. Let us live upon the mountain in all its glory. Why should we grabble in the fog of life when we can get out of it; and when we do get out of it let us send messages to those who live in the fog and tell them, of the beautiful sunshine awaiting them, if they will make up their minds. Also let them know if we can reach the light - they can also for the path is still there - all they have to do is find the path and keep upon it. They cannot fail, once they have gotten to the top of the mountain and felt the light of the sun and breathed in the pure air, they will never want to go back to the land of fog again.

Once they taste of the truth and their eyes have been opened so they can penetrate ahead and see the higher life awaiting them, their motto will be, 'I will press onward and upward for I can understand what life means.' How I sometimes wish I could let the people see the things I see and hear the things I hear. How I wish I could show them the real true light after death. What an incentive to live! What a field to live in! How wide this life is cannot be told. How deep is this sea of Wisdom is beyond my comprehension. How large the fountain of the love for humanity is beyond me; but I know I will do all I can to take of all three powers that man can carry. As the days go on, it seems there is no end to the beautiful thoughts we receive from the Soul-mind of this Creation. Only through a continued life could we accumulate so much of the Creator's Greatest Treasure; and as we partake of them life after life reveals unto us the vastness of this treasure storehouse. I hope, as the years go on, and I grow in body into manhood, then into middle-age, then press on to old age, I will keep accumulating without ceasing until I have reached the goal of my desire in this one life; then when I return, I will be able to start where I left off."

Here his father feels he must ask a question for the boy's talk is too deep for him and he asks, "Is it possible to, as you say, Reincarnate? You seem to make it clear to understand; yet to me it is against all the teaching we have been taught."

"Father, when you get into the Path of Wisdom all things are revealed unto you in their Truth; and since I am only a boy of seventeen and know so much of this wonderful Creation so early in this life - from where did it come?"

"You say a Silent Voice talks to you and tells you all things. What is this Silent Voice you talk about?"

He smiles - "The Silent Voice is really the Soul-mind, the Creator's portion of man, he gave man in the beginning; and said, 'I give thee a Soul-mind that will bring each material-mind into action and that Soul-mind can seek and have Wisdom and when you have found Wisdom all things shall be revealed unto thee.' So you see, as time goes on, so does the Soul-mind. The body will die and be given back to the Earth from whence it came; but the Soul-mind goes on living, yes, even unto the end of time. It comes and goes as time goes on. If it is an accumulating Soul-mind, it keeps adding to its Wisdom and so we have children born with this advanced Soul-mind - Reincarnation. If we look for proofs of this, we can find enough to tell any of us this is true.

We must keep our minds open and not let others lead us into the Path of Mysteries after death for mystery - there is none. The Voice of Wisdom tells us so. Does that satisfy you and answer your question? If you cannot see as I see, I would say, 'Go through this life as you have been taught; then when you come again, the world will by that time have the Light of Truth and you will fall in line'. You see, it is only retarding your progress for this life, for the Voice says to me, 'Every man must reach the place where the Creator saw him in the beginning and said, and I looked upon my work and it was good.' Since He said these words and meant them everyone of His Supreme Creation must reach a point of Wisdom to satisfy his Creator. He gave us that trust and we must fulfill it sooner or later; then why hold back when we can go forward. You will see even an advantage in that for he who does not play by the wayside, but keeps going on, will reap his reward by getting there before the others and can look back upon the others and even hold out a helping hand to those who are trying to reach him. So after all, no matter which way we look at it, we see life worthwhile and an incentive to get there."

"You surely do clear up the mysteries of life, Son; but how can we reach that plane of life?"

"Only by being your Natural Self as the Creator saw man in the beginning and in the end. He made us Natural; then we made ourselves Artificial. This is our doings. We put cloak after cloak on to hide our true self from our neighbor; and the world is full of cloaked people but I think when I see the Creator look down upon us and see us wearing our cloaks, he has to smile and say, 'Yes, I made you Natural but you did not like the Naturalness I gave you - so you created cloaks to hide yourselves. You may hide from your neighbor; but you cannot hide from me. Since I saw you Natural at the end of your world, you will have to dissolve some time - then why not now? Why hide yourself? Live in the Light of Truth then life will be life indeed. But remember, I gave you a trust - please be big enough to fulfill that trust so my Creation will not have been a failure.' As we go on advancing, the small Silent Voice keeps telling us what we are, from where we came, why we are here, where we go and where we go is of our own making. If we advance ourselves, we are making the Path of Life after this a more wonderful path to travel."

The mother says, "Son, you surprise me more and more, as you talk. I wonder if it is possible for a son of mine at so young an age to have found such Wisdom. I have been living in the belief for years that life does not end at the passing on of the material body. I could not see so great a Creator create a Soul for one short life and then put it away somewhere until the time of some Judgment Day; yet, as sure as I was, in all common sense, I did not speak of my thoughts to others for as soon as I did they thought and even said, I was a Lost Soul and would be punished for my lack of faith in the Light of the world today. I had to hold my peace and live my own life; but when you were born, I made up my mind when I looked upon you for the first time that I was going to stand my ground and declare myself. I felt, as I looked upon you, that you had a beautiful Soul-mind. I watched you day by day and listened to the things you said; and the questions you asked convinced me more and more that you were the Reincarnation of a Great Mind. I was a proud mother to have been given such a privilege.

Today I look upon you and actually see my first thoughts come to life in all Truth. I remember a man who was different from any other man I had ever seen. He got on the train and sat behind us; and as he looked at you and you saw him you almost jumped out of my arms to get to him. When I turned around to see the attraction, the man said, 'You have a most wonderful child. He has a beautiful Soul-mind; and if you bring him up right, he will become even greater than he was in his past life.' I looked at the man then more interestedly and as I did I saw him looking into the past and after a few minutes he seemed to come back and say to me, 'Never let that child be banded by education or discipline. If you do, you will spoil a life, yes, a wonderful life and it would be a pity indeed. You have a wonderful trust - fill that trust, and someday you will be the proudest mother in the world.' He then said, 'We will meet again.' He got up and left and I never saw him again in the flesh; but so often I could see him so plainly and he always seems to smile and say 'You are a wonderful mother.' I wonder if this is imagination or if he does come in reality. There is something strange about it.

I have seen thousands of men and have had to look at them for different lengths of time; but after they have gone, I never see them even if I try to picture them; but this man I saw for not more than five minutes; yet I see him so often just as I saw him in the train. He does not always say the same thing. He has a few words to say to me every time and they are always so wonderful I never can forget. The day before you came, I was standing in the kitchen when I felt something, I turned and there was my friend of the train standing beside me. When I looked at him, he seemed to say, 'What a treasure was given unto you. Value it as a true mother should.' I wonder who the man can be?"

Then the young man, "Mother, how old was I when we saw this man on the train?"

"I do not think you were two years old."

"I have a mental picture of some man; and that picture comes to me when I am drifting away to get in touch with the Silent Voice of Wisdom; and he seems to be the greater part of my life."

"Son, can you describe this mental picture?"

He does and his mother is amazed. It is the same person whom she has seen. "I wonder if we will meet him again?"

"Well, he said we would; but whether he meant in the flesh or the mental vision, I do not know. I hope we do some day."

Then his friend or Soul-mind Mother who has not spoken up to this time, says, "Do you not think a little walk down town would do us good? Suppose we all go together."

They all arose, dressed and left and as they were going out of the door the mother turned to her and said, "why do you want to go out? I was enjoying his conversation so much."

Then the friend of our Master-mind whispered. "Never try to take a quart of water out of a pint jug. He is but seventeen, you know."

The mother smiled and said, "Yes, I chose well, when I chose you."

They spent the night with the masses and came home late and retired.

A glimpse into the world
Will change our thoughts awhile;
But when tomorrow comes,
We will live in Truth once more.
