Chapter 13

Meeting The Master-Minds

I feel someone drawing near,
Whom I will know that I have seen before;
And yet it seems to be just a dream,
I wonder if this feeling could be real?

Next morning, as they all came on deck, he asked his parents how they were enjoying the trip.

"It is wonderful," the mother said, "The sea, the sky and the people are wonderful. I never knew people could be so interesting; everyone seems to become one family. It surely is a revelation after living in the cities to know how people mingle and talk when away from home. Then again, the meeting of people from almost every state is interesting; but the most interesting and pleasing part is to hear people talk about this New Book and ask if we have read it. They are all guessing who the author can be. Some say, 'It must be a man with wonderful experience in life, and a complete knowledge of the Earth.' They comment on his using the word Creator and say 'It is the most wonderful book - so new, yet so natural and easy to understand!' "

"That is enough, mother. I do not want to know what the people are saying about me."

"How can a mother of a son like you keep everything to herself? You have to open the SAFETY VALVES sometimes."

He smiles, as he says, "Yes, I guess so."

He turns to his father, "How are you enjoying your vacation?"

"Well, Son, if I get started, I will have more to say than your mother - so I will just say, I am satisfied - more than I could tell. I will take my morning walk." As he leaves, the conversation turns to the talk of the evening before when he was with this mysterious man.

"How long did he sit with you," asked his mother.

"Oh! I do not know, I think about twenty minutes."

The friend smiles and says, "You thought it twenty minutes but it was exactly three hours and he talked all the time. It was so wonderful; I wonder if he will be out today again. He surely makes the Truth of Life easy to understand."

"He does know the Path of Truth; but he says that before I reach the highest point of Creation, I have a hard road to travel. He talked of mountains of difficulties. He said the road would be rough and stony and hard to walk upon; and dampness and darkness would try to envelop me - and so many more illustrations of the things I have to go through; but I cannot see how that can be. I am well taken care of for I have you beside me all the time. When am I going to encounter all these trials and hardships? If they come, I will be a man and fight to the last drop of strength against these enemies I am supposed to meet. But he said one thing I think I will never forget: He said, 'Son, you may get down, but never get down and out - if you fall, you can arise again, as long as you do not give up, and when there is manhood, there is hope - so hold tight to your manhood, your word of honor and your PRINCIPLE. Do not let these things go and you will come through the mill the better for the grinding. The wheat has to go through a severe grinding before it comes to pure flour; gold has to go through a severe process before we have the gold as it should be; the diamond has to be pressed and buried for thousands of years before it can be brought forth in its sparkling purety, yes, and all men who set out on the Path of Truth has his own people, his peoples' people and the masses to fight and it is one against the many.

No one ever became great without going through the MILLING OF PUBLIC OPINION - But as you go on and on, public opinion will not alter your life: for your life is real and just as you would have it - not as the public would have it. Let not the masses control your Soul-mind life. Give to the masses what belongs to them; but give to the Creator what belongs to the Creator. Always remember it is you, yes, you always.' His talk was wonderful, inspiring and uplifting; yet I cannot see how I can have to go through the things he said I would."

"Well, Son, he must surely know; since I do believe it was this man who made me so strong in mind when the time came for you to go to school. He does know, and I know, for something tells me he will watch you; so you must meet these things just as he would have you."

His friend says, "A man such as he seems to prove there is no limit to the height we can reach. When I looked at him and heard him talk, I felt so small and insignificant. I just had to wonder when he said there is no limit - since, he knowing so much compared to what I know, how long will I have to live to know what he knows. He says there are no mysteries to him, yes, even from before this world was. He went on, and as he did, he seemed to look and look and you could see he was looking back step by step from this time to the beginning. As you saw or seemed to feel that he was there; and his far penetrating vision began to recede you could almost tell he was living over again every step in time and evolution up to the present time. You felt he knew everything; and there seemed no room for doubt for the expression on his face told its story. I will never forget the words he said as he left: - Remember, there is no limit to the Soul-mind, if you let it have its freedom; but there are two parts to the Soul-mind - the upward and the downward, so be sure you have the upward - not the compressing method; but the method of expansion.

Do not fill your brain with the thoughts of others, keep the bigger part of it for yourself: for one original thought shows you more credit than any amount of borrowed thought. If you cannot be NATURAL, try not to be ARTIFICIAL.' As he left, saying those few last words, he surely did look NATURAL, yes, so NATURAL you could see his greatness and his difference to others. No wonder when people look at him they say to themselves: 'He is different." The more I think of him the more I think I have met him or seen him before; but that cannot be, as far as I know, yet, I feel he is no stranger."

The boy spoke up at this: "No, he has been in my life not only this time but other times; and I know he knows everything about my past lives. Yes, he is one with an unlimited memory of the past - time is nothing to him. How wonderful a life like that must be! Just imagine, to reach a height where you can truthfully say, 'I know from where I came; I know why I am here; I know where I am going and I know every word of it is true.' He is right, there is no limit. The Path of Wisdom surely is worth the struggle. It makes me feel like saying, 'Oh! That I might have Wisdom, Power and Love - that I might use it even as He.' To hear him say that he has a Master, an Ideal so far above himself that it will take him thousands of years to reach the plane where his Master now stands. I wonder, who could this Master be? Here he comes, I hope he will sit with us awhile. No, he passed on with a smile and "Good Day." I do hope he will sit with us again before we land."

"And so do I. My life is accumulating day after day. I do believe, I am as anxious to see him again as you are."

I met the stranger as I thought;
But no, he was not strange to me.
I felt the friendship just of today,
Why, no, he was my friend of yesterday.
