As they came again on deck, the man of sadness yesterday, but as he said 'a man born again today,' was anxious to sit with the young man; and as soon as they were seated, he approached them and said, "May I sit down?"
The young man said, "Yes, if you WANT TO."
He looked at him, smiled and said, "I want to. That seems to be a word you use so much; but when its meaning, in its true sense, is understood, it is a wonderful word and means so much in life. I can see it now for the first time in my life - another lesson. It is so much more wonderful to do something you WANT TO than it is to do something you HAVE to. It surely does show the free will part of man; yet there are so many things we do that we have to that makes a common routine and we fall into this routine, unconsciously, do you not think?"
"Yes, I can see your view, we are apt to do so many things we just THINK we have to to please someone else that we forget that anything done because we have to do it is not well done. Only the things we want to do and take the pleasure in doing, do we enjoy doing. In your life, you were called upon by a HAVE TO DO that you were so loath to do that the doing was hard, indeed. You wanted your wife, yet you had to give her up."
"I know, how true and how hard that was; but since I see the truth of it all, I feel as though I would, if she lived today and was suffering as she was then, I would want to see her relieved of her suffering. You see, I have benefited by the lesson of last night, already; and I had a dream which showed me the truth more clearly."
The man of mystery, who was passing by, did not stop but said, "I see the seed fell on fertile soil - care for the soil earnestly and the harvest will be worth the reaping."
The boy said, "How wisely he speaks, and how wonderful are his words!"
"Only Wisdom could give the words that this man speaks," says the man of yesterday.
And the lady, "As I listen to his words, they make me wonder how much he knows. He meets everything and every issue in the most natural state. He is a MAN OF MYSTERY, indeed. As I look upon him, all I can say is 'He is different'."
"What do you mean, when you say 'different'?"
"I do not know - only different in every way to the ordinary man."
The morning was pleasantly spent, talking of the night before. As they parted for lunch, the new man of the Light said, "This is almost unbelievable. Can it be possible for such a change to come overnight? There is no more fog, no more darkness, no more pressure on my chest and the tightness of my head is gone. Can it be true or am I dreaming? Can there be such a life? I feel so good, I feel more a MAN than I ever felt before. Young man, I thank you for that smile. How I hated that smile for several days; but how I am going to love it for the rest of my days! I am grateful that you smiled upon me. I cannot tell you what I think, words are not big enough; I can only feel it and I feel it is true. I thank you (turning to the lady) for your presence."
As he left them, she smiled and said, "What do you think of him?" to the young Master-mind.
"I have nothing to say; but I see two paths, I see a person on each path. As I look, I see the two paths come together and as they do I see the two persons fall in side by side so easily and naturally - it seems to be a single path for two, and it leads to HAPPINESS." He looked at her and smiled.
"I thought you said you had nothing to say?"
"Well, can a person not see a picture if he wants to, and describe it without the other person guessing or coming to conclusions? I could mean so many persons that it does not have to be you. You know, I need you for a long time yet; so you see I hope the double path leads far before it becomes one - in your case."
"That is enough of that, let us go and eat."
The afternoon was spent in walking and enjoying the beautiful day with its heat and sunshine; and soon the day passed.
This was the night of the Ball on the ship. The people were all dressed and parading the deck. There seemed to be so many more on the ship than any time before.
As our young Master-mind took his seat with his AUDIENCE, as he called her, he said, "This is a beautiful night. It seems so calm, so peaceful, so pleasant in this warmth of the evening, and so still - the Voice will be heard, if it will speak tonight."
"Yes," she said, "but do you not know there is a Grand Ball tonight and the sight will be worth the seeing? Do you not think you would like to see the people dancing and hear the music?"
"No, I do not think I would like it; but if you want to see, by all means go. I can sit here alone, no, not alone, I am never alone for the Small Voice is constantly with me."
"Oh! I do not want to go, I thought maybe you would want to see - that is the reason I told you. I would rather be with you than anywhere else in the world. You see, the dress, the Ball and the dancing would be pleasing while it lasted and tomorrow I would forget; but the things you might say will stay with me for life. Why waste time for a passing memory, when you can hear things that will be a life's memory?"
"You also are reaching the place where you speak wisely. What a true friend I have found in you! When I look upon you and hear you speak thus, it puts me in direct touch with the Book of Creation; and as it begins to unfold its leaves, I know it is a new story or vision for they come always in MENTAL PICTURES. The pictures begin, in turn, to unfold; and as you look into it, you see the Path of Wisdom more clearly, the greater things of life come floating in, and as they do the Voice says 'Look and I will let you see how far the Path will lead you. First, I will show you the picture of the Earth on which you live and how far a man has to go before he reaches the height of Wisdom attainable in this life of advancement toward man's highest point in Soul-mind'. - Would that the Light become brighter that I might find the highest life possible."
At this, the Silent Voice spoke to him thus: "To attain the highest height, you must be natural by being truthful to yourself, by analyzing yourself, by watching that no organ has too much put upon it nor too little, by coming to the knowledge that there is nothing big enough to worry about, by taking life in its true meaning, by setting a goal in life so far beyond you that it will take years to reach, by seeking ever seeking the truth, by accumulating Wisdom, by seeking a Power without limit that can be used for the benefit of others, by acquiring a Love so vast that the fountain of love can never run dry and by not letting the smallness of others overcome you. You must have confidence in all humanity, although they do prove their smallness - do not forsake them nor look down upon them; but give them your sympathy and in time they will repent and ask you to forgive them which you will do readily: for you should see no smallness in anyone, but look for the little spark of greatness that is in all men; and then try to kindle that spark into a burning flame. Do not take anything from anyone, if you cannot give them something greater in return. These are the keys to the lock that opens the door of Life and Wisdom, unto those who would become what the Creator saw man should be. He made man to finish His Creation, just as He saw it finished when He looked at the beginning, 'I would see man, yes, all men amass such WISDOM, POWER and LOVE that harmony will prevail throughout the Earth'."
"You know, as I sit and hear the Voice of Wisdom talking to me, I feel: if I could only go on ever hearing this Voice and the beautiful thoughts it brings to me; if I could go on accumulating this vast Wisdom and receiving Power and more Power and the flood-gates of love were flowing for me continuously, I would be satisfied to just sit and drink until the end of time."
At this, the Voice spoke again and very strongly thus: "Now, if you traveled all your life like this, and as each day brought the Truth of Life, and you became a Master of Creation and gained all the Wisdom and was shown all the secrets of the Power of Creation and this great Principle became revealed to you how to use this Power, and you drank from the fountain of Love until you felt the world belonged to you in your Wisdom; and yet you traveled on until the end of time and saw the end of time come - would not your life be a failure?"
"Oh! Thou Silent Voice, spare me, I see myself as thou would have me see. After all, how small I would be, how selfish I am! No, My Creator, it was a weak moment of the flesh, not my Soul-mind for I see myself clearly at this moment."
"My Son of the Light, I will forgive you for I see as you travel further into the Light and receive more Wisdom and thy Power is increased and your Love for Humanity is multiplied; then you will not want to retain for you will find that the more you give to others the more you will receive."
As the young Master-mind came out of his receptive mood, he said: "Creation, how beautiful - how wonderful - how vast - how majestic - how thrilling - how life-inspiring! Oh, thou Great Creator, give me Wisdom that I might understand these things more. Give me Power that I might use it for the benefit of Humanity. Give me Love that I may be able to give it to others even as thou hast given it to me. Make me live that the world might be better for my living. Nay, My Creator, I would have all I can receive of thee that I might pass it on to others. I do not ask this for myself, but for the good ONLY that I might give to others. How can I thank, thee, Oh, thou Great Creator? Words are so small to try to express myself. I cannot keep silent - I must find a way to thank thee - I must, yes, I must."
At this, our young Master-mind arose in a hurry. His friend did not understand; but in a few minutes he was back upon the deck again, his violin in his hand. He walked toward the rail. His friend knew then that his Soul-mind was so full he had to give vent to it by the music of the Soul-mind instrument.
The deck was set for the Ball; and they were ready to start the music - when this boy began to play his violin. He was unconscious of anyone or where he was, as he played. You could feel the vibration filling the air. The orchestra did not start. As the sweet strains of the violin came from the young man standing facing the Heavens, pouring out his Soul's thanks in music, a strange feeling came over his listeners. Everyone drank it in and knew it was something they had never witnessed before; yet he played on, yes on, and on, sending thrills through his audience. He did not realize he had an audience; yet they kept coming nearer and nearer until you would think almost everyone on the ship were standing around him. The Heavens seemed to lighten up, the waters ceased to make its noise against the sides of the ship, it seemed everything and everyone was listening for fear they would miss one note of this wonderful music; yet there he stood sending out sound waves, yes sound waves, that will go on forever.
Do you think the Creator heard him? If He did not, His Creation did; and they wondered how such strains of music could be produced from a violin. It was not the violin, but the Soul-mind tuned up to perfection; and as the Soul-mind was so was the music. He seemed, as he stood there with all eyes upon him, that he would never come to the end and the people did not want an end; but he again burst forth with such a thrilling outburst that the people could hardly keep quiet any longer. Suddenly, he came to an abrupt end and said aloud, "Yes, I tried in words but they failed to give expression of my thanks, I tried to tell you through my violin and how it tried but it, too, has failed."
Just then the Man of Mystery came up to the boy, and as he stood and looked upon him a light shone from his eyes, and he laid his hand upon the boy and said, "You have tried to give thanks with words and song, now try Silence, My Son of the Light."
How beautiful! Yet it was not enough for the boy. He was filled to over-flowing; but he went back to his chair and as the Man of Mystery left him he said, "My Son, I am proud of you this night; and surely thou art fulfilling thy trust."
As he sat down and looked at his parents, the tears were glistening in their eyes - but they were tears of joy. His friend took his hand and he understood and said, "I think I shall go to my room, SILENCE ONLY can tell Him how I love Him."
The music started for the Ball; but the people felt a contrast in the music and could not dance as they had anticipated. There were so few on the dance floor, it was a failure. So many of the people stood in groups and talked of the beautiful music and the picture of our boy as he stood alone against the rail with the moon shining upon him.
What a picture, what music, what a memory to those who heard and saw this tonight! Yes, a night to be remembered as long as their lives continued - a MASTER-MIND.

A THOUGHT
A thought came floating in to me,
From a source I cannot see;
'Tis enough that I know they are beautiful
And makes life more pleasant for me.
There is only one source they can come from;
For they seem so much higher than me.
That tells me that I am in touch
With something Truthful and Real;
And that something is greater than me.
Thoughts like these I know could not come,
From a lower Soul-mind than I;
So they must come from a higher plane,
Yes, a plane that is ever so high.
They could never come from the Earth below,
For there is nothing there to see;
Only solidity of the crust of the Earth,
And the soil that gives us something to eat.
That is just to feed the material man;
But the inner man, you see
Needs the food in thoughts of the higher kind;
And they can only come from above.
