Again night is here and the father, mother, friend and boy are having their evening chat; when the newborn man comes and asks to join the party. They tell him, he may if he WANTS TO. This from the young Master-mind to be.
As the conversation began, there came towards them, another person. They invited him to join them. He thanked them and drew up another chair, and said, "I heard you play your violin last night; and as I am one of the MUSICAL WORLD, a thought came to me - What a violinist! Such playing, I have never heard before. I did not sleep last night for I have become interested in you. If you had someone to look after you, in the proper way, you could become the Greatest Musician of today; and just think what that would mean to you. You would meet all the greatest people in the civilized world, you would be invited to play before Kings and Royalty. If I had you under my care, what a life you would have, what wealth you could amass! Why - money would roll into you so fast, you could ask any price for your musical talent. If you played before Royalty - and I know I could get you there, what an honor this would be to you! What a son your parents would have! Yes, the world would be at your feet if you played before them as you played last night.
"But you see, I do not know music, I was never taught music - only the scale."
"Oh, we could soon overcome that. The way you play, tells me that you could learn, if you had a good teacher, all the music you need in a few short months. I can arrange that; and I would be willing to pay the cost, if you would sign a contract to play for me - for say five years - at a salary, I would be willing to give that can easily be arranged.
Just at the finish of this part of the conversation, the Man of Mystery appears, and they are all so pleased to see him. Each of the five, who had met him before, offered him their chair.
He said, "No, but you (looking at the young man) may get me one, if you want to." As the chair was brought and he sat down, he said, "Did I hear something about some kind of a contract?
The man of business spoke up, "Yes, Sir, I have given the young man the greatest opportunity he will ever have in his lifetime," and he repeated, what he had said, to the man of mystery, who listened with a smile until the person finished by asking, "What do you think of the proposition?"
"It sounds good, or it would to the ordinary person; but you see this boy is a Soul-mind Violinist. As he told you, he knows no music and he means it; but as I listened to you, I felt I was in the right place at the right time. As I see it, you would turn this MUSICAL SOUL into a MONEY PROPOSITION, you would deprive him of his NATURALNESS and in its place you would put the artificial. He plays only when he WANTS TO - you would force him to play because he HAD TO, you would take him away from the life he has and give that life to the masses for pay, you would take his free will and make him a victim to the very thing he has so much pleasure in, you would make him the reproducer of some other man's music and he would then become an imitation instead of his originality, you would take him to play homage to Royalty when they should show homage to him, you would pay him a set salary and force him to be a COG IN THE WHEEL OF INDUSTRY - for as you know whatever is a trade so is the wheel of industry seen. He would no longer be able to think for himself for as you thought, so would he have to think. He would not be able to go where he would want to, only where you ordered him would he be allowed to go.
You would take him around the world and show him to the people, just as someone else would take a FREAK OF NATURE so he would arouse the curiosity of the people and draw people to see and hear him. Yes, you have given him a proposition; but, when you see it as I see it, it would not be a proposition but a calamity. You would pull him down to the level of all music peddlers. No, it would be better to have a millstone around his neck and thrown into the sea than accept the proposition you have put before him. He is too great to play for Royalty; and since he is too great for them, he is also too great to play for the masses. He plays to one ONLY and that is his Creator. Did you not see, as you looked at him last night as he stood there in the moonlight, the smile on his face, his very Soul pouring out his thanks to his Creator? Was he conscious of the people that stole silently towards him? Did he know he prolonged the great Ball of the evening and made it a failure? Did he, as he finished, turn around to bow before the people who were listening to him - to ask for an encore? No, the words he uttered, as he turned, were: 'Even this does not do justice to my thoughts of my Creator.' Ask the young man if he could play now, and see what his answer will be."
"He need not ask, for without the emotion of the Soul-mind, I could not do justice to my violin, myself nor my Creator; it is only when words fail me that I bring forth my violin to help me express my feelings. It is ONLY my Creator, my violin and I."
The stranger: "You speak wisely, Sir, and you surely put a true picture before me such as I have never had before. Although, it is a dream gone amiss; yet I enjoy hearing you talk. I will mention business no more, if I may sit and listen to you."
"I shall be glad to have you listen, since it is to you I owe the beginning of our conversation. As one thought leads to another and the Path of Wisdom leads us to solve one mystery after another and show life in its truthfulness - so does the man of Wisdom see the Principle behind every issue, as I saw the Principle behind your proposition tonight. You see the Principle of all things are revealed as we live and seek to find those Principles. Man, IF HE WILL, can find the Principle of Creation and be able to use it."
"You talk deep, Sir."
"Oh, no, just on the surface. Would a man bury something deep in the ground, if it could be kept on the surface where he can pick it up at any time, or would it be common sense to have to dig it up whenever he needed it? The Creator laid everything man needed on the surface; but man in his blindness trampled it down until it was lost to view then it became a mystery. So you see only man made mysteries."
"Do you mean to tell me, Sir, that to you there are no mysteries in the world?"
"Yes, and no, the things the Creator put upon the Earth for the use of man were not hidden in mystery; but how man had to fall over them before he saw them is a mystery. How a man could be so blind, when he had eyes to see is a mystery."
"Very interesting; but I would like to ask you a question; and it is this: 'Does everything move in CIRCLES?' "
"EVERYTHING, even the Earth on which we live. Since the Earth does, why should not all things of the Earth move in Circles also? For instance, the trees live and die and live again; the seas give up its waters to the power of the sun but after a journey across the skies it falls to the Earth and goes back to the sea again; the sun to us goes down in the west only to rise in the east again; the moon does the same thing; the mountains form and in due season will return to whence they came and new mountains will be formed once more; we are born, live and die, only to be born again. Oh! I see that brings you forward in your chair; but wait a minute and you will see life as it should be seen. The body is of the soil; when it dies it goes back to the soil - to stay? - No, it crumbles back into dust of the Earth again and by its decomposition becomes a nutrition to the soil and feeds the vegetation of the Earth once more; and then man eats of the vegetation and the body is back in its same form as before - of the soil - So even the body of man is in this Circle.
On the other hand, you will wonder what becomes of the part of the body we call LIFE - What and who gave life to the body? - Our Great Creator; so you see, we are of the body of our parents, we are of our Creator - really THREE-IN-ONE. Since the material part goes on and on so does the Creator's part go on in Circles. The Soul-mind was a gift to man by his Creator, and without this we would not be man: For this is the seat of the free will, the part of man that makes us man, or otherwise, we can progress steadily onward to the highest man or we can stand still or even deteriorate just as we use our free will with the Soul-mind. The giver of this Soul-mind gave us a Trust and that Trust is to bring this world to as near PERFECTION of man as can be; but with this Trust, he also gave us a free will and with these words 'As thou thinkest so thou shall be' left us alone with our Trust."
"Then how does the Soul-mind, as you name it, reach the height of which you speak?"
"By accumulating more Wisdom every time it takes possession of a newborn body."
"Why! That brings in REINCARNATION."
"Decidedly, it does; and why should not the Soul live over and over again until the end of time? You know, to a man of Wisdom, this is the only reasonable thought. I know, it brings into the minds of people new thoughts; and if they could realize the truth of this, they would make this world a better place in which to live - also be a great incentive to lead people to think higher thoughts. They would become more independent and would realize that each man should know what he should be, how he should live and how he could advance if he stepped out for himself and not be led by the thoughts of others. How can a man tell another man how to live, if the other man were as big a man as he - if he is not, whose fault is it, the other man's fault or his? We let the other man think too much and we sit still and are content to abide by his thoughts - which means WE SEEK THE LINE OF LEAST RESISTANCE and by doing so retard the progress of our own manliness. If any man knows more than I, whose fault is it - mine only. He used what the Creator gave him, I failed to fulfill my Trust."
"Then if man fails to fulfill his Trust, does he go to HELL; and if a man does fulfill his Trust, does he go to HEAVEN?"
"That is a big question; and you know it has been taught to the human race for thousands of years. If anyone condemns the theory, the people look upon him with distrust; but I shall give you a mental picture and when you go home you make a sketch of it and then think for yourself - for after all, it is the INDIVIDUAL that counts: - We will make a Circle to represent the world, then an outer circle to represent the UNIVERSE. Now you have our world in the universe or space. Sketch man on top, one looking down, the other looking up; on the side put two more men; on the bottom put two more men; on the other side put two more men, in each case, one looking up, the other down. The ones looking up represent LOOKING UP TO HEAVEN, the ones looking down represent LOOKING DOWN TO HELL. The ones looking up see the beautiful Universe as far as his eyes can reach; and as you look up the thoughts are naturally upwards.
The ones looking down, if he has eyes to see, will see just this: First, the soil that gives us food; then the stratas that are filled as the storehouse for man, yes everything that we need to live and advance in the line of EVOLUTION; then below that the molten heat of the Earth and without that molten heat we could not live for it is that heat that keeps the soil warm for the benefit of vegetation, it is that heat that draws the rays of the sun, it is that heat that gives us our climates, it is that heat that gives us warmth both summer and winter; so since it serves man so faithfully, how could it symbolize the place we are taught is down below? What do they mean, when they use the expression 'DOWN TO HELL and UP TO HEAVEN?' We get life both from the heavens and the interior of the Earth, then where can this place of punishment be but only in the Soul-mind, yes, the mind that goes with the Soul at all stages of life?"
"You surely give me something to think about," said the stranger.
"No, I would not say THINK; but LISTEN to your Soul-mind and as it answers so you believe: for as your Soul-mind is so shall your thoughts be. If your Soul-mind is advanced so shall your life be advanced in the Path of Wisdom. If it is not advanced, then how can your thoughts be? - How wonderful life is if you know how to live! - But otherwise it is a failure. So my Friend, as I leave you, I would say 'make life worth-while, then you will not have lived in vain,' Good Night."
"I wonder who he can be, I wonder how much he knows?" Said the young lady.
Then the newborn man said, "I, too, am wondering."
The young Master-mind then spoke, "A night like this, with a Master-mind, carries me away into a higher plane of life and light that fills my heart with joy that I am permitted to live once more the Path of Wisdom to trod; for I will know more and more as life goes on in the Circle of life without end."
"You also speak wisely," said the stranger.
"Oh, yes, when I have something to say. A Master-mind knows how small he is; yet a smaller mind seems to know how big he is. I wonder why? - Why the smaller mind thinks he knows it all, but the Master-mind realizes he knows nothing to what he ought to know?"
As they all arise to retire for the night, each one expresses themselves thus: "A night to be remembered. Yes, a night I shall never forget. I have only one fault to find, and that is the swiftness of time, the other a new Light to Life shown me."
"As I listen, I agree, it was a night well spent; and now it is half-past three."
