Chapter 17

The Storm

As the storm rages on,
A story it will tell -
To the Young Master-mind;
Then a story he can tell.

The next morning as the people came on deck, the weather had changed, the sky was black, a breeze was blowing and the sailors seemed to be getting ready for something, the people knew not what. All hands on the ship were at their posts as if expecting to do something. As a sailor passed our people, they asked him, "Does this sea ever get stormy?"

"Yes, Madam, and when it does, we know it; for it shows no mercy. We have had a radio message that there is a storm traveling our way; and by the feel of that wind and the way it is gaining speed, we are sure we are going into it."

As they heard this, our young Master-mind said, "I thought we were sailing too smoothly all these days. I do not think it would be a voyage complete without a storm."

As the time went on, the wind increased and by this time the heavens turned black and the sea began to show its first commotion. The ship began to heave with the waves, the waves increased in size and the ship rolled accordingly. Soon the lightning flashed, the winds increased their mad rush to somewhere and the waters seemed to be getting more angry. At each increased velocity of the wind, you could see how the ocean was resenting the action of the wind. The more the wind blew, the more maddening the sea became and the more the ship was tossed upon the waves. Sure enough, they were in a great storm for the ship seemed to be helpless to fight its way, it had to submit to the rolling of those huge waves. All this time, our young Master-mind had been sitting upon deck watching and understanding the Principle of the storm. Soon orders were given that all people must leave the deck, as the waves were increasing to such a volume that they expected them to reach and break upon the deck of the ship. The few who were still upon deck, left to go inside. Our young man asked one of the officers if he must go inside.

"That is the order of the Captain, so they must be obeyed. Would you want to stay here and be washed overboard?"

Just as he said this, a great wave broke over the ship and this decided it for the young man; so, although, he could see the true picture of this storm, he lost his desire to stay on deck. He went inside.

A storm, yes, a storm indeed; and how that ship fought with the Sea. You would think the Sea was using every tactic possible to claim ship and people for its victim. First, it would hit the ship one way then another until the ship groaned as if every bolt was giving way to the fight; but no, she fought bravely until the afternoon, between five and six o'clock; when it seemed to settle down. The commotion among the passengers was sad; yet you could not help but smile. Why is it that everyone has such a horror of death on the Ocean? There were weak-minded people who were sure the ship would never pull through; there were some who you could see worry in their face as they thought of their people at home waiting for them; there were some who were indifferent and said to themselves, "Well, if this is going to be the end, it has to come sometime." But there was one on the ship who laid upon his lounge and did not worry. You could see he WAS SEA SICK; yet there was no expression of fear. Why? - Because, he was a man of Wisdom. He was asked by one of the passengers if he was afraid. Although sick, he answered, "No, HE WHO CREATES SEES THE END OF ALL THINGS MORTAL; and I cannot see the end of this ship - so we have no fear, she will reach her destination safely."

The person who asked this question, at these words, dried his eyes for he had been thinking of his wife and family waiting for him and he knew how they needed him. But the man of Wisdom brought comfort to him; and soon he left him to tell others, who were afraid, what he had said. Soon after this, the ship sailed out of the storm, yes, and out of fear, into gladness. The people soon forgot what fear they had had and talked and smiled about the fear they had experienced. Soon all were on deck again.

Evening was drawing near and the sunset was beautiful to see. After the blackness of the afternoon, the sun seemed to throw out more light than ever, as it was disappearing into the sea. The sea was settling down again to its quiet peaceful state as only the Pacific Ocean knows how. Dinner was served in the dining room. Other meals of the day had been served, but there were not many people present at the serving, the Sea had had its joke and robbed them of their appetite.

This being the last night on board, a Grand Ball was prepared in the First Class part of the ship. Our young Master-mind was sitting, yes, and hearing the Voice of the wind and water telling why the storm. He was approached by one of the ship's messenger boys with a card in his hand. The messenger handed him the card which read:

"The captain has been requested to ask you to play for the people on the First Class Deck tonight at 9:30. I hope you will accept this invitation for we have some very distinguished guests. It will be a great honor to you to play before these people.

Signed - The Captain of the Ship."

Our young man read the card. He had had the privilege of having a sight-seeing tour through this part of the ship. He thought it was wonderful; but as he looked around and saw the people who sailed in this part, they seemed somehow not to be human - not advanced - but like pieces of statue work he had seen in museums somewhere. They gave him the impression that if they moved they would spoil their beauty or maybe if they would happen to stand up they were so stiff they could not sit down again. As these thoughts came to him, he smiled, took his pencil and wrote:

"No, I do not accept your invitation. I deem it no honor to play before those people. I play only for my Creator."

"Take this to your Captain, and tell him I thank him."

Just then his audience, as he named her, came to him. As she sat down, he said, "I had an honor offered me."

"What was it?"

"The people in FIRST CLASS requested that I play for them and their pleasure at 9:30 tonight. They even set the time for me."

She smiled for she knew what he meant. "Well, what did you do? Accept the invitation and have your head swell for the first time as you sit and anticipate the great coming event? You should be proud of yourself to be requested by the MIGHTY OF THE EARTH that you play for them and give them a few moments pleasure. They might even clap their hands, if they heard you; and think what an honor that would be to put them to that trouble. You should go just for the fun you would see. Did you ever see these kind of people try to show their appreciation? Some put their hands together so gently, some just hit the palms of their hands with the tips of their fingers of the other hand very gently for fear they make a noise. What a night of laughter you are missing! What a picture of camouflage you are depriving yourself! I deem it an honor for you that you have eyes and see and understand the hidden principle of life. If you could mix with them and see through them, it would be food for thought."

"No, do not tempt me. I said no, because I did not want to; but as you talk, I can see a great opportunity. But it will come again. I would like to see this picture you describe, and see its two sides - the serious and the funny blended into one. Some day I shall take the advantage of my violin and see life as it should be."

"We could have traveled in this class; but I wanted you to see and meet the Natural first - then some time we will travel with the Unnatural class. It will be a wonderful revelation to you and a great study; also show you how far man is from the goal of man as the Creator saw him."

"Maybe it will be good for a book some day. I would rather sit with you alone in the evening than be anywhere else. You know that storm gave me a wonderful picture, a wonderful revelation and the principle; but we will have to be alone before I can tell you."

"If that be true, where can we be alone? Not on deck, for as sure as we sit here, you will draw an audience. You know, since you stirred up the curiosity of the people, everyone wants to meet you. The only way I know is to go to my state-room."

"Yes, but I would have to deprive you of this invigorating pure air; and we were compelled to stay in so much today."

"What do you want me to do? - Sit here and listen to others when I would rather hear you? I would rather listen to you and gasp for my breath than breathe all the purest air in the Universe; and miss the story the storm told you today. At the time of the storm, I must admit I was afraid; but since it is over, I would not have had it otherwise."

"You speak my thoughts, are you reaching a point that you can read my thoughts before I express them?"

"Oh, no, I am just speaking for myself - To the state-room we go."

Since they want to be alone, let us leave them and go on deck. People are all settling down for the evening. As we walk on deck, we hear people talking of the storm and how each one felt.

When we come to the place where our young Master-mind has his chairs, we find four people sitting, the father, mother, the man newly born and the hard matter-of-fact stranger of the night before. Let us hear their conversation. The stranger is the first to speak of the night before. He says, "I lost a night of sleep trying to figure out how much money I could make out of that boy of yours; and I will tell you the picture I saw: I saw myself meeting Kings, Queens, Lords, Dukes and Presidents of all Republics. I saw my bank-roll swelling so big that I began to spend it; what a time I had. I saw myself traveling all over the civilized world, with me the most wonderful boy in the world and myself Master of him. What a night I had! Even if it was an Idle Dream, it was a wonderful dream. If you could have seen me, the way I approached the Royalty and the people in High Social Standing, you would have smiled. How I filled my wardrobe with everything to meet every occasion. What a dream, what an anticipation! Sleep - What did I care for sleep! I thought morning would never come.

I looked at your boy all day; and went to my state- room and wrote down the picture I would put before him. The gold fields in the west were nothing to the nugget I had found. I would be - what? - Well - a gold mine without the labor. I would have nothing to do but keep this boy under my supervision day and night. I would have to watch his diet, watch his hours of sleep, put him into a routine so strict that he would not want to do anything of himself; for the moment the contract was signed he would be mine. You see, I had everything cut and dried, there was nothing to it - all I had to do was show the boy and his parents the possibilities, and they could not help but see. Then night came - you know the rest. But that is not all, as I was passing the man of mystery's door he seemed to know it was I for he opened his door and handed me a paper and said, 'Read this before you retire;' and here is what I read:

'Yes, it sounds good the way you put your proposition; but here is what I see: He would have to play when he did not want to, he would have to go where he did not want to and would not be able to go if he wanted to go, he would have to sit when he would rather stand, he would have to stand when he would rather sit, he would have to go to bed when he felt like staying up, he would have to stay up when he felt like being in bed, he would have to meet people whom he did not want to meet and he would be deprived of the will to meet people whom he wanted to meet, he would have to travel the seas when he would rather be on dry land, he would have to stay on the land when he would rather be sailing the seas, he would have to talk to people whom he did not like to talk to and not be able to talk to those whom he wanted to, he would not be able to stay where he wanted to - and all these things he would have to submit to to be able to make someone rich and maybe become rich himself - yes, in money; but no longer in principle. If he did accumulate wealth, it would only be to lay in some bank or banks for he would not need any more than he needed - and any surplus is a drag; so you see the picture. What do you think of it?'

"When I read this, it meant another night of sleep LOST; but this time not building myself up through the channels of another but looking into life as it should be. The truth of this man's statements staggered me. He leaves no room for argument, he leaves you no crevice to crawl through, he hits you right between the eyes and so hard it blinds you for a few minutes; then when you open your eyes to see, if you can still see, believe me you see a different picture to the one you saw before he hit you. I have had pride in myself for years to be able to drive any proposition home and WIN but this time I LOST - no, not lost; but found a view of life such as I thought could never be. It is so easy to understand. He put everything in line and showed how unreal we are, how unnatural we are, how small we are, just imagine how he sees what we call big people. I see it: A child is born a MUSICIAN; when he begins to show his ability they harness it, they confiscate him, they take his free will, he is just as he says - 'NOTHING BUT A MUSIC PEDDLER playing for what he can get out of it.' Yes, we take the natural and mold it into the artificial. You can bring in every line of life. How can a man bring such a train of thoughts forward in a mind like mine; and open up these things we think great and turn them into such smallness that he makes you dwindle down in your own estimation? I have to smile as this thought rushes to the front - you could never guess what it is trying to force me to say."

"Come on, Friend, let us have it. I almost know what you are going to say."

"Well, if you think you do then you say it."

"All right. How dumb we are. Up to now, we knew nothing and thought we knew something; but now we know we know something and that is we know nothing. The greatest joke is, we know it is true."

"Well said, you read my thoughts splendidly and never spoke more truthful in your life; but I would like to know where this mysterious man got all his knowledge. He must have gone to some great institution. I went through everything in the line of education but these things I never read in school. I have read hundreds of books of the most wonderful authors, still I never read anything like this man talks."

"He told me he has read the Book of Creation and that is where he gets all he knows. I asked him who the author is, and he smiled and said, 'The Creator, of course. Do you think I could write the Book of Creation? No, the book is too big, it took the Creator only six days to see this book finished by Creation; but it takes millions of years to write the book and bring it to its closing chapter or finished Creation.' He also said, he has been reading it for years and years and as he reads, it becomes more beautiful at every turn of the leaf."

"What thoughts!"

"Yes, not only thoughts; but true facts, everything he says you can see its truth and common sense hitting you so hard that you can only sit and listen. You feel you would like to ask questions of him; but when you hear him talk awhile, your question becomes so insignificant that you just hate to display your smallness before him. Strangely, too, he drifts to the very thing your question would have brought forward and explains it so easily. I would say he is a FOUNTAIN OF WISDOM, and we compared to him in our insignificance are only LITTLE BACK-WASHES who are satisfied to lay quiet and take anything that is given to us and swallow it as something big and think we know it all. DO WE?

"I can almost say, 'As I think so do you think', and do you not feel just as ashamed as I do?"

"Yes, Sir, some day I will tell you my story and what he said and did for me; and you will see how he hit me. You got it mild. I was thinking, this is about the time he takes his evening walk before he retires."

"I wonder, if he does come, would he answer a question that I have been holding all day?"

"Here he comes, I always know him by the piece of red in front of him. Did you ever see a man smoke so much?"

Just then a "Good Evening, Friends. Why are you sitting here while everyone else is trying to see the Ball in the First Class Section?"

The friend born anew, as we named him further back, "We have a more pleasant time sitting here going over the things you have told us."

"Food for thought, I would say."

"Yes, and plenty of it," said the stranger of last night; "but if you are not in a hurry, I have a question to ask you."

"All right, I cannot sleep anyway, so I may as well join the party. Before we start on this question, let us have something to eat." He calls the steward and says, "Bring us a tray of sandwiches. Cheese will do and tea for five."

They drank their tea and ate their late supper.

"Now, since I have had my tea, I am ready to hear your question. Questions are the Key to the Door of Conversation and as the question is so shall the conversation be - ask for much get much, ask for little get little. Go on."

"Is it possible for a man to withdraw from the wheels of industry and still make a living?"

"Some men yes, and some men no. If you have gone through the routine of school and college with one special aim of being a cog in this special wheel of industry and you fit into the wheel easily, then you are in your right place; but if you feel discontented and feel a friction by your being a cog in the wrong groove then it is possible to leave that wheel and find your right place in life. But as long as you have a master over you, you are still a cog in the wheel, no matter how smoothly you run. When you reach a place and then realize that no man should know more than you and prove this to anyone you meet; then you can say you do not belong to the cog wheel class anymore - you become the whole wheel yourself, when you reach this point. Then you can make a living by giving to others what no one else can give; and they give you in return only so they are not under an obligation. Even as they give, they will say to you, 'I can never pay you for what you have done for me.' To reach this point, you must not imitate anyone, you must be your natural self even unto refusing an Education. EDUCATION is the greatest DESTROYER of the NATURAL we know of today. I did not want to go so deep into this; but one thought brings in another and as they come so must I speak them.

For example: We will take three children. No. 1 is extremely bright and is of an intelligent mother. She has taught her child how to read and write, and the numbers and read stories to him and he being a bright Soul-mind drinks in everything. He can even carry on a conversation almost unbelievable; but the time comes when he has to go to school. No. 2 is a medium bright child who knows quite a portion of letters and numbers; and it is time for him to go to school. No. 3 is a boy who is dull and has been taught nothing by his parents. These three children go to the same school on the same day. They are all six years of age, all put in the same grade and taught by LAW. The child who is bright has to stay with the other two and go through the same routine. Since he knows it all already, he just sits and listens and answers the questions put to him.

You can see my question answered, 'Is it fair to either the child or the parents to keep that child in the same line as the dull child and retard the progress of the one by the slowness of the other?' No, it is when the parents realize that they have had a gift of a bright Soul-mind given to them and know how to withdraw the child from the line unto which he has been forced and bring him up as COMMON SENSE says - and not the LAW that takes all three kinds of children into the routine and sends them out all on a level. Have you ever watched the young men and girls come out of school with honors and great anticipation with what they thought they had - an Education? If so, just travel with me for a while. It is a year now since you saw these young men and girls step into the world, each had the same education, each knew as much as the other for they had all to answer the same questions, read the same books, did the same problems. They went in as different minds; but they have been molded into a mass of people with only one mind and that mind had not been trained to think - but to memorize - that is all. Let us see them when they find employment; we go into a drug-store and see one of these bright young men or girls serving at the counter. Does it take a high school to teach this girl or boy how to make a drink at a Soda Fountain?

Then we visit a department store and we find one of the girls, you saw leaving school with a high education, at the dry goods counter; and if you notice everything she has to sell has the price marked on it. Did she need the High School? Yes, as we travel on, we will see them in the mines, behind the plough in the fields, in the work shops as part of a machine watching one special part of the machine and that is all they will have to do for as they enter the wheel of industry they think that is good enough for them and in a very short time they have forgotten they ever had an education. Seventy-five per cent of what they were taught in school is not needed in these lines. I do not condemn Education, neither should Education condemn a man who was big enough to say 'I will not submit to this routine, I will not let them put the band of discipline upon me or condense my mind with other men's writings. I will not read for if any man can write, I can. I will of my own free will seek knowledge from the source I feel I should.' When he does take this stand, his mind begins to expand of itself and not with borrowed material; but by the Soul-mind having free access to the material mind. As the Soul-mind is so shall the man be. You can readily see that a man can make a living even if he refuses to be one of the multitude of one thought."

"A true picture, but how do I stand? I was brought up to believe that man could know nothing or do nothing worthwhile without an education. This means all to me. I am molded in it, I have lived by it, I have taught it, I have forced it upon others, I could not see anything but Education, could not believe in anything else. I thought it was the most essential thing in life. Now, I meet a man who says he has had no Education as far as school goes; yet he tells me such wonderful things and is so far beyond anything I ever heard or read and puts things so plain to understand that can cause no argument. Can a man, as I am, saturated with the use of the right word, the unnaturalness of life ever reach the place where you are now? Yet you say you know nothing compared to what you ought to know. Could I be taught to read this Book of Wisdom or Creation of which you speak?"

Then he said, "I will have to tell you what My Master of Wisdom told the Young Ruler - simply this: 'You must be born again.' "

"Even as I have been," said his other listener.

He then arose to go and again turning to them he said:
"Oh! I know that in this one short life there is a story to unfold;
The story is beautiful or sad, it just depends by whom it is told.
Do you not think if we could see our life as it should be,
We could help ourselves live and forget our misery?
They tell us there is a Path to Light if we keep the Light in view:
It will lead us into a Path of Wisdom that will mean more to us than gold.
It will give us everything that is great, make us noble, kind and true.
It will make us man enough to carry life's battle through.
It will give us Wisdom, Power and Love, yes, a three-in-one indeed,
and make us big enough to help those who our true friendship may need.
It will bring a smile that will shine from our eyes,
A light so gentle, loving and kind in people we so seldom find.

"Well, I must say, another night well spent. We meet a person like this once in a lifetime. Is it possible, it can be two o'clock."

They all arise to go to their berths to sleep - no, to think.

Will their thoughts lead them right? We will see if the seed took root, as time goes on.

The next morning, the young man and his audience, as he named her, came upon deck and she carried some papers in her hand.

As the Man of Mystery comes to them, she greets him thus: "I want you to hear what our young man saw as the storm raged yesterday. Such a picture! Yet a lesson in Creation such as I never heard before. Have you time to listen?"

"Yes."

So they sat down. She starts to read the picture.

"As I sat upon the deck, the morning of the storm I noticed a slight breeze and as it played upon the water, the water seemed to enjoy it; but the breeze was in a hilarious mood and it kept increasing and increasing until I saw it was changing the temper of the water. First, they enjoyed it then it began to enjoy it more, and was more in earnest; but the wind did not know when to stop. Because it saw the water loosing its temper so did it; then the fight began. It started by a gentle caressing; but finished in a raging storm. Since they are blinded by the rage, they wage war and destroy or try to destroy anything that may come in their path of destruction.

They care not what they do, how many lives they take, how many fathers they take from their families, how many mothers they take from their children, how many brothers and sisters they take from each other, how many sweethearts they separate after the vows have been made between them that nothing could part them, how much material substance they destroy, they are seeking revenge and in their seeking they take the things that do not belong to them; and then as I see once more the anger being slowly abated and then coming slowly back to themselves and see them lying so still - I want to ask the Sea the question: 'Why do you get into such a raging temper, why do you not consider that you hold upon your bosom, the lives of the Creator's Supreme Creation, why do you wish so much destruction?' The Sea answers thus: 'You seem to blame me for all. It is not fair to me. I know, the things that rode upon me suffered by my anger; but you should ask the wind for it was the wind that made me mad, it was the wind that made me lose my temper and made me reckless in the things I have done. Ask the wind, maybe it has a story to tell too.'

'All right, will you, the wind, tell me why you insisted in working this quiet peaceful water into the state I saw it in today?' 'Why, yes, I will tell you. You see, I, too, have a duty to perform and there was a great vacuum. First, the vacuum was small, and I thought I could fill it in by a gentle breeze; but, no, that did not meet the demand. - So I had to increase my volume and spread to try to do my duty; but the more I tried the more vacuum there seemed to be. I saw it was going to be a battle for that vacuum must be filled or it would cause great destruction somewhere. - So I, too, became angry, yes, and rushed madly across the water. I could not stop to explain to the water and she thought I was bent on making her angry. You will have to question the vacuum.'

Then the vacuum speaks: 'Yes, it was I that caused the winds to blow, it was I trying to fulfill my mission also; and no matter how angry the waters become or how much destruction it does, I must be obeyed by the wind for I am master of the wind of the Earth - wherever I am created, the winds will have to come at my call, whether it be land or sea or what part of the Heavens. If I am created in the East, you should see how I pull the wind from the West; if I am in the West, I make the winds come from the East; if I am in the South, I call from the North; if I am in the North, I call from the South, so you see I am vacuum and vacuum is a great Power. Nothing can move without a vacuum unless it is pushed by artificial Power. Seemingly, it was I that was responsible for the destruction; yet not me, alone, for I could not become a vacuum of myself. Oh, no, it takes the Sun to create me - so if you want to find the Principle of the vacuum, you will have to ask the Sun what part it played in the storm at Sea.'

Then the Sun says, 'Yes, I shall tell you how I create a storm. I play all the heat or some part of my direct rays, intensely, on some particular spot; and as I do, I keep drawing the moisture until I get it sort of swirling around and by this means, the outer shell of the moisture becomes non-porous, and the air is drawn up and up leaving an intense vacuum - until there is a tremendous space without air. Then the walls of this vacuum begin to weaken and the moisture becomes porous again; then the air rushes in through these small apertures that cause the gentle breeze, but soon the pores become larger and the wind increases in volume to meet the demands of the larger pores; then friction becomes predominant and the great vacuum explodes and then there is a great rent in the outer shell of the vacuum. It is then that the wind rushes in madly ahead. It heeds neither man, beast nor anything that may be in its path until it has done its duty and the vacuum is no more.'

I said, 'Then it is really you, the Sun, who caused destruction on the Sea?' 'Yes, to a certain extent; but I am not prepared to take all the blame for I, too have a mission to fulfill, not only one, but many. And this is one of the many. I have to do this sometimes to draw enough moisture from near the surface of the Earth and draw it up high into the Heavens so I can keep it high enough to reach the top of the highest mountain. It is then this vacuum is so often created. When I have gotten enough to serve my purpose in the part of my life, I open the cloud which I have kept so long and carried so far and let it fall upon the mountain tops to feed the vegetation, also down the mountain sides and into the valleys that the children of Creation might live. 'This is beautiful, but it seems we have to destroy the few to save the many. Even at that it sounds human.'

"Then who does really appear the one to blame?"

He says, "If the Earth in the high mountains did not need water, the sun would not need to create a vacuum; if there were no vacuum, there would be no wind; if there would be no wind, there would be no storm on the Sea; if there were no storm on the Sea, there would be no destruction of ships built; then if all the ships that have been built were still upon the water, what an Ocean it would be - So I think, taking all in all, all we can say Creation is wonderful, the Principle is beautiful and it brings out the two words CAUSE AND EFFECT. If we could leave the cause for everything good, and remove the cause of everything evil, would this life be worthwhile? - No, for without a fight there is no victory. If a man is born of rich parents and spends all his life in full and plenty, did that man realize what he had? - No, he did not any more than the man who was born poor and lived poor all his life for he never knew what it was to be poor. Each one is equal to the other, and each values life the same; but if a man is born rich and loses his riches through life, he does realize what riches were.

The same applies to the man born poor and amasses riches for he knows what it is to be rich even as he can realize just how poor he used to be. Life is just as you make it, it can be a life of greatness or a life so small that you would have to look for it with a light in your hand. My Son of the Light, some day, I want you to come and sit by the Seaside; and as you watch the waves come rolling toward you, ask them this question: 'Why do you roll on and on, do you not get tired rolling?'

Then listen. This will be the last time I will see you for a long while; but we shall meet again. As you mix with the masses, do not let them drown out of your life, the Silent Voice. You will see and meet many people so I would say 'watch your step, and remember if you feel yourself slipping, carry a small box of sand with you and if you get afraid just drop a little under your feet.' You will find this a great help to you. You are going to enter into the flesh-pots of the world." Then turning to the young Master-mind's friend, he said, "Watch over him, talk to him for his good; but do not go against his free will. Leave him have his WANT TO; and see what we shall see. I say again, go with him when he WANTS you; but when he does not want you then leave him go alone. A man must be a man, and he only can make him a man. I will say 'Good Bye' as we will be leaving the ship today."

"Will we not see you anymore today?"

"Yes, you will see me, no doubt; but I will not have the privilege to talk to you again. I will see you both again." Then turning to the lady, he said, "Do not let the two paths become one too soon."

She opened her eyes and looked at him with a smile, "So you, too, saw it?"

"He Who Creates sees the end of all things mortal. It will be a happy ending; but do not enter into it too soon. Keep with he who has been put under thy wing of love. A love that has come down the ages."

To his young Soul-mind, he said, "If ever you need me, you will not have to ask me for I will be there."

So shaking hands, they parted. Let us watch, from this time on, the life of this Master-mind's advancement.

The rest of the day was spent preparing to leave the ship. Soon they would be in a new part of the world. What will he see, what will he do, how will he mix with the people, will he influence the masses or will the masses influence him?

"We shall wait and see," she says,
It's wonderful to sail upon the Sea,
When the Sea is smooth and calm.
It is nice to feel the breezes blow,
To cool the air that blows upon my arms.

It seems a place where friendship new
Give memories and ties and friendly smiles.
You meet a stranger of yesterday
Today he is now a friend;
And as days go by that friendship grows.

You wonder, when the parting comes,
If this could possibly be true -
That loves thrill just come to you
Will Part like this or will it grow
To be a love of true Soul-mate some day?

Yes, 'tis nice to sail upon the Sea
To meet a someone like I have found.

"Oh! Here is our newborn friend coming. Let us hear what he has to say."

The young man says, "You seem so pleased to see him."

"I am for he has been nice to all of us, you know."

"Yes, I know."

"What a change, a change indeed!" He greeted them, "This has been a wonderful voyage for me. I got on the ship a lost Soul, a lost man in every respect; but I am leaving what? - you look at me and tell me truthfully," (turning to the lady).

She replied, "You are worth looking at now, anyone can look upon you without having their sympathy aroused to such an extent that you thought if you could only take that mask of misery off and see the man beneath, would he be worth the second look or would he be a disappointment? But the mask fell off, and (smiling, she says) you are not bad to look upon, your eyes are bright, your face is red with the sun, your complexion is not bad; but your expression has improved in the past eight days beyond comprehension. I am speaking freely, don't you think?"

"Yes, and if he could read between your words, he would know the reason why."

"Oh, I am not so dumb as I look," says the newborn man, "but soon we will be off the ship and I was wondering what part of this wonderful country of ours you are going to stay."

"My Secretary makes the plans and I fall into them."

"We thought we would stop at a hotel for a few days, then look around for a suitable house to live in. His father and mother will only be here a few days; and after they are gone we shall seek a private home somewhere, where it is quiet. My Master here and I have to be alone most of the time so when he talks, I listen."

"Since you are going to stay in my home town, I will see you. You know, I never told you what I used to do. I was a real estate agent on the largest scale. I would like to go back to work again."

"In that case, let us be your first client. How lucky we are to have you right here to take that part out of our hands."

"Here is my phone number, call me when you are ready to go house-hunting, and I will be at your service. I do not want to lose sight of this man's smile, the smile that led me back to life once more. I wonder what Mother and Dad will say when they see their NEWBORN SON."

The ship pulled into the harbor and the usual excitement prevailed. Good Byes were said, many never to meet again, some to carry memories through life in some form or other; but the ship crew will carry one memory and that is the boy and his violin. They all wanted to bid him Good-bye, and some thanked him for the music.

He just smiled upon them all. At last they were off the ship, and on their way to the hotel, our newborn friend with them to see them safely settled before he went home.

The Man of Mystery did not seem to be anywhere on the ship in the landing; yet he was first off the ship and on his way before the others left the ship. He waved to them and was gone. - Where? - I wonder.

After two days of rest in the hotel, our young Master-mind said he would like to go down to the Seashore and watch a sunset. So they planned to go the next day. As they sat and saw the sun setting, a sunset that can only be seen in the West, the boy watched it without taking his eyes from the ever changing beauty of the sky as it slipped down behind the clouds. What a picture for a young mind of Creation! Only those who look upon these scenes with the eyes of Wisdom can see their surpassing beauty and drink it in. The splendor of the Heavens is a picture no man, no matter how great an artist he may be, could ever paint a true sunset for the picture is ever changing, yes changing faster than a man's hand could use a brush. Creation, how beautiful, when the sun has gone down! He then looked at the waves rolling in, ever rolling, he asked his friend: "Do they always roll in like this?"

She says, "Yes."

"I wonder, if they would speak to me, if I asked them? Yes, I feel it coming, listen?

As I sit by the Sea
And watch the rolling waves,
Come rolling towards me.
They seem to try to tell me a story,
I know that it will be true.
I wonder what that story can be?

Then it says, "Yes, I have a story;
And to you I will unfold.
Now listen very attentively,
And I will tell you all,
I will tell you where I came from,
And why I am rolling on.
Yes, rolling and never ceasing
Until my mission here is done.
I will tell you of my SEVEN MISSIONS
Which I have fulfilled in the past;
And what I will do in the future
As I keep rolling on till the last.
I will tell you how I have carried,
yes, from the four parts of the Earth
The people who ride on my Bosom,
To meet their loved ones at last.
Oh! Yes, I have caused many partings
Of dear ones - I know this is true.
But I carried so many thousands
To new lands of liberty and love.
I know I have taken my toll
Of the lives that sailed upon me
But remember, I just took what I gave;
For nothing could live without me.
Just look at the thousands, yes, thousands
I have fed from my food-store, you see
If you look at me in the right, Sir,
You may think kindly of me.
I keep the Earth you live on
In an even keel, you see
How it would tumble over and over,
If it were not for LITTLE ME.
How I keep it in its pathway,
Only a MAN OF WISDOM can see.
Then since a Man of Wisdom seeks,
I must give up my secrecy;
But I don't mind telling you all,
And to tell you - may make me feel good.
As time goes on and man can see;
Then I will no more be misunderstood.
Then again I have Power,
But a Power that cannot be seen -
I must force my water from me,
Matters not how much they want to stay,
To the top of the mountain, you see,
Yes, some are thousands of miles away.
How I have to push this water
Through the stratas so strong and thick,
That it takes, yes, many years, Sir,
Before it reaches the rift
In the rock in the side of the mountain,
And forms into a River or Creek.
But did you ever think, Sir,
That if I could not do this
There would not be a living thing,
Neither vegetation, man or beast;
So you see, this mission is great, Sir,
When you see the Truth as it is.
Then again, I give you salt -
Another thing, we must have
To make your food taste better;
And lots of other things -
I the elements can defy;
And if I had this not, Sir,
How many of us would die.
Then again, I have to tell Sir,
What I do for all mankind.
I am the cleaning process
Of all the filth I find.
When my streams come floating in to me,
They carry with them, you see,
All kind of decomposition
From the land surrounding me.
Thus man, beast and vegetation too,
Cast off all their dirt;
And send it on to me.
By this I help to destroy
The germ of all disease -
As you know no germ
Can live in purity.
So my mission is all for man, Sir,
If you can see me right.
So all I ask of you Sir,
To see that I get my rights.
Just tell the world of people
The story I have shown you;
And the Creator's Creation will
Become more beautiful to see.
When seen from the eyes of Wisdom,
Yes, the Wisdom they can have from me.
But wait I have another mission
I would like to tell you about;
But it carries my memories back
To the time when the world was hot.
How I fell upon its surface,
And the cooling process began,
And how I accumulated as time traveled on;
Until I knew the Earth was ready
For vegetation and life.
Then I caused a great commotion,
And the commotion you shall see;
If you just follow me closely
As I relate it to thee.
I felt the Earth's heat underneath me,
Yes, it came creeping up to me.
My coolness had its effect, Sir,
As a split in the stratas you see.
And then I went rushing right on
To the molten heat of the Earth;
And you can, I know, imagine, Sir,
Just what a fight that would be.
You see as I mixed with the fire
That fire got furious with me;
But don't you think I, too, had a temper -
Just wait a minute and see.
There we were, the two bitterest enemies
That ever man could conceive,
Fighting with all the vengeance -
As never before was seen.
And then there came an upheaval
By the pressure of explosives there,
How it pushed up the Earth
By the millions of tons, I declare.
Then before I knew it I was rolling
Into the valley that had been made there.
When I looked, I saw some dry land, Sir,
Which had never been there before.
So you see, I was forced to divide,
Since the land arose far above me.
It was then I had formed the rivers
That would continuously flow into me.
But as I looked up from my bed, Sir,
I thought I saw something green.
I knew then that my Creator
This period had already seen:
For I know, as He saw my formation
He also saw the parting of seas.
As He saw the land come from the water,
And saw the land covered with green.
Yes, this was the start of the storehouse
He saw must be filled to serve man.
So I waited quietly and patiently -
I knew my time would come again.
I watched the vegetation growing,
Yes, growing so thick and dense;
For you see the Earth was rich, Sir,
And a beautiful sight to see.
The trees were so strong and massive;
And the vegetation so bright and green.
They had a lot of sun, Sir,
And the rain I sent them to drink.
But I was just waiting my time, Sir,
And as years rolled on into time,
I knew the moment would come, Sir,
And I did not have to wait in vain.
Again I felt the heat of the Earth
Come creeping slowly toward me.
Then I got ready for the fight -
Just as the fire got ready for me.
Once more the Earth split beneath me,
And down to the fire I went -
Caring not for the outcome
For this mission I was sent. -
I rushed into the mass of molten heat;
And once more the battle began,
Between this fire and me.
And the seething masses as it intermingles with me
Accumulated such a wonderful power
That it lifted the stratas, you see.
Right where I had been lying,
And had been satisfied to be.
Then with a rush, I had to go
To find a new basin, you see;
And it was just where this vegetation was
In the part I had seen."

I thank Thee my Wonderful Creator
For the Soul-mind thou gavest me -
That I might listen to the Ocean;
And hear its story and see
Thy greatness in all thy Creation
That man even as I might live.
Oh! What a picture thou dist paint;
When EVOLUTION thou began -
To prepare this world for habitation
For thy supreme Creation MAN.
I wonder if you are satisfied
With the progress we have made,
In the Path of Evolution -
That leads us to the end;
When you saw in the beginning,
And said, 'IT WAS GOOD.'

Yes, we can play by the wayside, and prolong our reaching the perfection that He saw; but as sure as He saw us so will we have to reach that standard of man. So why tarry by the wayside? Why not keep traveling on, constantly keeping our eyes upon the perfection we are bound to become some day? Why not advance your thoughts into the higher life and the truth of life? Why stay away from the Path of Wisdom, as Wisdom only can open the greatness of the Soul-mind? Yes, the Soul-mind - for without this part we could not be of the Creator. No, we would be only of the flesh.
