After the parents had left for home, our two were left alone once more to plan their future program. They decided to see everything that would be interesting, and if anything he saw that would be food for thought for his future writings, they would prepare it just as it came to him.
The night before they were going to start, our newborn man called upon them. He still insisted that he be their chauffeur as he knew this part of the country for miles around; but although they would rather have him than anyone else, the young master-mind saw and understood. He said to him, "There is no other person to fill in the way you would, but the filling in would not be wise. If we wanted to be alone, you would be lonesome; and we will want to be alone so much that you would be alone more than you wanted to be. We are friends, let us stay friends, yes true friends. We will hire a driver; then we will be able to say, 'stop' and he will stop. We will be able to say, 'go' and he will go. We will be able to control the speed we want to travel. You see, we are gleaning Wisdom of Creation, not pleasure riding nor sight-seeing. This is a looking into the Book of Creation, and if you were with us we would naturally think that we would have to talk to you to keep you company; but if we have a paid driver, we would not be under any obligation to try to entertain him. So you see, we would not have you on our minds and it will leave us free to sit and forget we have a driver.
We can watch for the turning of the leaves of the Book of Creation - for they tell me Creation in this part of the country is so interesting to the ordinary tourist. How much so will it be to us! Now tomorrow you can, if you want to, go with us as a guide for you know everything and everywhere is strange to us. We shall enjoy your company tomorrow, won't we?" (turning to his friend).
She smiled and said, "Just as you say."
The newborn man - "You will have a big field to listen to for there is the beautiful Ocean as seen from the shore, there is the wonderful and majestic mountains, the foot-hills, the orange groves and the grape vines which grow in profusion. There is the desert and its thousand and one different colors as the sun plays upon it. There is the painted desert of the west, the great mountain of sand, the wonderful mountains of massive loose rocks just piled up, the springs that give off hot and cold water - just a few feet apart, there is the great industry of the oil fields, the formation of the rocks and the washes of the different parts of the country where the sea used to lash the rocks into every conceivable formation. Then the mountain, each of a different period - some lava, some sand rock, some lime stone. What a wonderful book, I never thought of these things until tonight! Is my mind, too, opening up that I can talk of these things as I never have before? I have seen all these things; yet just a passing vision.
There is still more coming in - there is the Grand Canyon, the Great Rockies, the Great Divide - Then not forgetting this wonderful climate and sights to see around this wonderful country of ours. How I am talking! But this is just an outline of what you can see; and as you are a Master-mind, I see no reason why you can not solve all these wonderful mysteries so the world may see them as you, a man of Wisdom, sees. How long do you think it will take you to see the things and see their true formation?"
"We intend to spend not less than twelve months traveling and then we will enter into the wheel of the masses so he can see them just as the eyes of Wisdom should see. The Book of Creation takes in everything. I do think we will be here about five years in all. I think it will take us that long to see and understand life as life should be seen; but we will have no routine, we will go when we want to go, go where we want to go and spend our time just how we want to. Of course, he is the master of this five years, and what he wants to do so shall he do. When he wants me to go with him, I will go; when he wants to go without me, I will stay at home. You know, by this time, it is all him."
Then the young Master speaks, "It feels wonderful when I hear you talking thus; but do you not think I will need your advice sometimes?"
"If you do," she says, "ask for it, and I will give it; but as you think so shall it be. You may do things, go places, meet people and find enjoyment in things I may not approve of, but even then it will still be you - as your mother told me years ago, you must have no routine in life, your life is yours and as far as you have traveled it surely has been wonderful. We will let each day bring its own line of life in for you; we will plan only tonight for tomorrow but if anything interferes with these plans even these can be changed at your will."
"Wonderful life," said the newborn man, "but what time do we start tomorrow? I am longing to see how our young man here drinks in the beauty of this part of the country."
"Be here at nine, if you want to go along."
"I will be here." As he leaves, he says, "What a life worthwhile! Can this be possible?"
"There is no end to the possibility of life - so make up your mind to go to the verge of the impossible for as man thinketh so he is, and as he is so does he speak; and his words tell the story, to those who hear him. Good night."
Next morning, as they get into their car, each one waits for the other's suggestion for the day's ride and as no one speaks, the driver turns around and asks where he should go. The young man said, "Go north." The other two look at him, as they thought: How he gave that order! So north they went.
As the day sped on, the young man sat silently, constantly keeping his eyes on the country as they passed through. He finally asked, "When does the sun go down?" They told him, he looked at his watch and said to his driver, "You may turn now and go back." To his friends, he said, "I want to observe the scenery from the other side and that will get us home before the sun goes down; and we will not waste time nor will we miss anything of this wonderful turning over of the leaves of the Book."
This was the first he had spoken, only at lunch time.
As they get home, he was so full he could hardly wait until they were left alone, when they were, he looked at his friend and said, "How much did you see today?"
"I do not think I saw much. You see, he was so entertaining that I forgot we were out sight-seeing."
"Then how much would you see, if he were to go with us every day?"
"I can see that now, and I was afraid he might interfere with you by his constant talking."
"No, I did not hear a word he said, I knew he was talking to you but that is all. His voice may be sweet to you, but to me the Silent Voice of Creation drowns all other sounds out - and the Voice surely did speak today. After supper we will write, so I can evaporate. I am filled up to my full capacity, I must have an outlet."
This went on for twelve months, traveling in the day time, he telling her, as they sat at night, of the things he had seen and what had been revealed unto him. How truthful were these pictures! What a book this will make when it is complete! What a vision in mental pictures and how plainly will he reveal the mysteries so that all people who live in this part of the country will love it more! How it will draw thousands more to see it who will try to see it as our young Master-mind saw it! I WONDER IF THEY WILL.
